I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself as this is my first post here at Alt:Mag. I'm Erin, a girl who is a little obsessed with all things Pokémon (as you will find out) and loves a good anime. I also run a vegetarian food review blog called Guilt Free Veggie! This is going to be the first article in a series of 'Looking Back' where I will be re-watching old cartoons/anime and giving my view on them. In this post I am going to be looking back at the first episode of one of my all time favourite anime shows, the iconic and well-loved Pokémon. Now I may have a few sarcastic comments every now and then but as I am fluent in sarcasm it is only to be expected and I assure you it does not detract from my love of Pokémon and all it entails.
So, after pressing play I was greeted by the iconic theme tune, and it was just as catchy as I remembered and I couldn't help but sing along to it (very poorly might I add) much to the displeasure of the rest of my family...
Since when has there been a green Pokéball? Seriously I have absolutely no recollection of this ever existing... I May have to Google to find out more about this mysterious ball.
Okay, just Googled it and there is nothing about a green ball, the closest I could find is a friend ball but that wasn't introduced until generation 2, plus the Onix that appears from it doesn't exactly look like a friendly Pokémon.
Seriously, isn't Ash only ten? When I was ten I wasn't allowed to stay in the house on my own or stay up past nine, yet Ash is allowed to get a Pokémon and start travelling the region?! His mother has allowed him to leave education in hopes of becoming a Pokémon Master. His mother seems to have a very liberal view on raising children. Apparently Ash's mother decided to let him sleep in despite knowing how important this day was for him. Parenting at its finest.
Also, Gary, is there really any need to be this mean? Surely it would be better to become friends with people than make a collection of enemies before you have even started your journey.
Surely Professor Oak could have ordered in enough Pokémon for everyone, it's not as though there were hundreds of children, there were four.
The start to a beautiful friendship <3
I am pretty certain that that is a Steelix.
Wait, Ash seems to be totally clueless when it comes to even catching a Pokémon, do the children not have to do any form of induction training? Because Ash seems quite confused by the fact that Pikachu can only say its name and is not capable of fluent English. He is just trying to attack the Pokémon himself, honestly has he never seen a Pokémon battle before?! The trainer does not typically shove their Pokémon out the way just so they can battle themselves, I think that whoever runs the Pokémon world needs to invest in setting up a compulsory master class for all future trainers.
Ash, did your mother never tell you that it is wrong to steal things? (Then again she seems to have quite the laissez-faire attitude when it comes to bringing up children).
Oh my, I am feeling all the emotions right now, Ash is prepared to be really hurt just to protect his little Pikachu, a Pikachu who appears to hate him at this point.
Oh Ash, the irony that you would encounter one the rarest and most legendary Pokémon of all on your first day no less. A Pokémon that many a trainer searches their whole life for. Naturally, nobody believes him.
