Avengers Assemble (Movie Review)

I know I said in my review of Chronicle that it was one of the best films so far of 2012, but I just got back from the cinema after seeing Avengers Assemble (aka The Avengers in some countries) with Lewis and a few other dudes and I can not stress enough how good it was. Avengers Assemble is probably one of the biggest films of the year as it brings six of Marvel's greatest heroes together to face the ultimate challenge... protecting the earth from an invasion!

Each hero in Avengers Assemble can be found in previous films that are all part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first two Iron Man movies, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and finally, Captain America: The First Avenger all lead up to Avengers Assemble by giving away little hints and connections all related to a massive plot where they all come together to defend the earth. Two of The Avengers, Hawkeye and Black Widow did not have their own movies, but could be found in the movies mentioned above; Hawkeye was featured in Thor, while Black Widow was featured in Iron Man 2. They really built up to this movie effectively, with Thor's artefact being used to create the world's first super soldier (Captain America), and the group S.H.I.E.L.D (mainly Nick Fury) appearing in nearly every film hinting towards the Avenger's Initiative and Loki (Thor's Bro) returning.

I loved this film to bits. Lewis said to me that Avengers Assemble is probably the first film in a long time to actually use 3D effectively, and not just a gimmick. The 3D is mainly put to use during the final battle with the cameras following around the heroes, giving you the feeling that you could be on a roller-coaster soaring around the city viewing the battlefield and witnessing the heroes as they battle it out fiercely. The battle in New York reminded me a lot of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, mainly due to the special effects, but also how an invasion begins and a huge city gets destroyed. I also strongly thought that the alien race "Chitauri" reminded me and looked almost alike the "Locust" army from the Gears Of Wars (series).

The plot was great. Each Avenger turned up randomly, was already there to start with or was recruited at the beginning. But sadly, not everyone gets on from the word go, right? It takes a number of fall outs, unexpected surprises and attacks from the bad guys, for them to all finally become focused on their main threat (Loki) and begin to work as a team! There was some comic relief featured as well, with Hulk and Thor becoming some sort of a comic duo. Oh and let's not forget Tony Stark (Iron Man) and his sarcastic and hilarious personality!

Avengers Assemble features an all-star cast, with the likes of Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, and Samuel L. Jackson all playing significant characters in the plot. I recommend this film to all of the Alt:Mag readers, and I stand firm when I say that this film was one of the best films I have seen so far this year in 2012 (I know I said that about Chronicle)!!! I mean come on, its The Avengers, what else more is there to say?
